(Camp) Doormat, 2016
Coir mat, black acrylic paint
30x18x1"
A welcoming phrase normally found on a doormat is replaced with a military style barracks used to house incarcerated Japanese Americans during WWll. Forced to leave their homes and apartments on the West Coast, 120,000 Japanese Americans lived in spartan conditions in 10 established concentration camps.
